On This Day in American History
On February 14,1849, the first photograph ever taken of a sitting U.S. president is captured in New York City. The image of James Knox Polk, the 11th president of the United State, is the oldest surviving photograph of a president in office. William Henry Harrison might have been the first president to be photographed, but that image was lost.
