The Editor's memo for this day!
(Monday, 5, December, 2017)
My daily work in the weekdays seem to be beginning early in the morning for editing the 「VOA@com」, so that when, say, the clock shows "7 a.m.", for instance, I feel having done a lot of editing work. This makes me feel the morning and the day and even the night seem to me quite a long period of time, making me feel "I've done a lot each day. I've done this and that!". Never "The time flies so fast", never! On the contrary, "I've done this and that", making me feel satisfaction for living. It would be very rare for an old man after retirement with such feeling. This of course gives me great deal of notion of having a meaningful morning, days and nights....
Oh, even at the time I enjoy watching the TV, I never watch it with doing nothing but trying to do something such as stretching exercising or the like. The time is money, indeed! Ha, ha.
....In the midnight I happened to wake up. As usual, began to make a stretching in the shoulders inadvertently with my eyes closed. This is the way I make it it rule to do in such cases you know. 24 hours are my own with no obligation for others, so to speak, so that I enjoy and be satisfied whatever I like to do so to speak. Enjoy myself in and with freedom as my own wish! Wonderful!
For example, you know, yesterday morning at around 9 am, I felt strongly and said to myself, " Well well! It's still 8 am! I've done a lot!". This sort of feeling gives me some sort of satisfaction of having done a lot in my life in each span of 24-hour everyday life, which means giving me a sense of enjoying every corners of my daily life, in stead of feeling "Oh, time passed so quickly...". Don't you think so?
Well, it is past 2 a.m. Within a few hours, "VOA@com" comes in, which is one of my keen interest and source of one of my pleasures. 朝受信の「VOA@com」は「No.323(Dec. 6, 2017)"On December 5, 1981, U.S. President Ronald Reagan expands the powers of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)"（Concerned article："1981 Reagan gives CIA authority to establish the Contras"(HISTORY) ）」です。
Oh, I hit upon an idea! One of the leading newspapers in Japan, Nihon Keizai Shimbun"(Nikkei) has its column "Shunjuu(Spring-Autumn) column", which is renewed past midnight! I clicked to find it tells about the American Yankees player, "Rickey Henley Henderson". It would be an interesting hero for tomorrow's column here with some photos! Well, good night and good morning!!!!
today@VOA & NYTimes.com
This column is for editing what I call "the illustrated stories" with photos related with the events and news, so that the visitors could enjoy the stories in a visual ways. The former, "today@VOA" deals with historical events with the exception of week-ends, and the latter with stories who lived and dead with more than a hundred years old of his or her lives. My interest in the latter one comes from my strong will of living more than a hundred of years trying to make it with a thought of my mother who lived until 102, or my personal wish and will to live a life of the so-called "The longest lived Hibakusha(A-bomb survivor) with my thought of "Ms. Elbina Deans, the longest-lived suruvivor of the Titanic", and another target of a 119-year-old Filipina, Puerto Princesa, with the title of oldest living person in the Guinness Book of World Records.

"On December 5, 1981, U.S. President Ronald Reagan expands the powers of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)"
Boy! this issue is so complicated that it might be that the attached photos are not necessarily right depicting the event story. One thing is clear and that is the VOA news with only five lines of story would have never given the editor this much of photos concerned. I owe to the article of "1981 Reagan gives CIA authority to establish the Contras"(HISTORY) for editing this anyhow.

"On December 4, 1945, Congress approves full US participation in the United Nations."
The bottom line of the photos seems interesting, why Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev hanging up his shoe while speaking? For detail, click "Did he bang it?: Nikita Khrushchev and the shoe". (The-27-photo-attached file)(42.5KB)

On December 4, 1945, Congress approves full US participation in the United Nations. The Senate vote means the US will join most of the world’s nations in the international organization, which aims to negotiate differences between countries and limit military action.
